Primary Function of Position
The Director for Japan Sales and Marketing will be responsible for leading the organization from the pre-commercial phase through market introduction and commercial expansion of a new advanced navigation system. The role requires both strategic leadership and practical execution, supported by strong market insight, clinical awareness, and collaboration across internal and external stakeholders to build awareness, adoption, and long-term customer satisfaction.
This individual will establish and grow a commercial team by recruiting, training, and managing sales and marketing professionals. Success will depend on experience with frontline selling as well as developing managers who can achieve immediate goals while laying the foundation for long-term business stability. A strong understanding of the Japanese medical device market, including reimbursement and hospital purchasing practices, is essential.
Roles and Responsibilities

Recruit, develop, and lead high-performing sales and marketing teams

Provide coaching that elevates performance, strengthens talent retention, and improves overall effectiveness

Reinforce organizational values and foster a culture of continuous development

Develop and execute strategies that support early adoption and scalable clinical and economic validation

Enhance the company’s reputation by collaborating with customers, government bodies, industry groups, and internal partners

Build and maintain relationships with Key Opinion Leaders in thoracic surgery

Manage revenue and expenses associated with the business

Maintain consistent communication with regional and global leadership

Ability to travel up to 70%
Skills, Experience, Education & Training

Strong leadership skills combined with solid business acumen

Track record of hiring, managing, and developing successful sales teams in fast-growing environments

Ability to analyze market and technology trends and convert insights into effective business actions

Proven ability to form productive relationships with physician leaders, hospital executives, and healthcare administration bodies

Strong preference for experience with capital equipment sales, especially transactions exceeding 100,000,000 JPY

Clinical familiarity in related specialties is a plus

Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred
