Client Requirement

TRIO, a not-for-profit Oncology CRO, needed to appoint a Chief Executive Officer to replace their previous leader, who was retiring. TRIO retained Barrington James to conduct the search. The new CEO needed to maintain TRIO’s strong momentum, bringing expertise in oncology and ideally experience within a CRO. We also considered candidates from other life science sectors, including biotech and pharmaceutical companies. The ideal candidate had to possess comprehensive knowledge of clinical trials and demonstrate competitiveness to win innovative projects. Above all, TRIO required a leader with the presence, diplomacy, warmth, clarity, and resolve to succeed a highly respected predecessor. Given TRIO’s distinguished board, which includes some of the world’s leading oncology scientists, this role demanded an exceptional blend of IQ, EQ, and leadership.

The Solution

Leveraging our networks across the life sciences sector, we conducted a thorough search across North America and Europe, reviewing over 200 potential candidates. Our diligent approach allowed us to present a diverse shortlist of six candidates from both North America and Europe, each with experience in biopharma or CRO. After interviews, the client unanimously selected Catherine Marle, an experienced and poised leader from the pharmaceutical and CRO industry, based near one of TRIO’s primary sites in Paris.
